For Diwali we made diva lamps with the children, we talked to them about how Diwali is the festival of lights and they use diva lamps to put candles in. I put some pictures of diva lamps on the table along with one that I made to give the children some inspiration. They were all given a lump of clay, some glue and sequins and left to work on their creations. The children took their time moulding the clay to the shape they wanted them to be and then decorated it with sequins. We had some lovely unique diva lamps, some were covered in sequin whist other were less sparkly with a few or no sequins adorning them.
The children were left to create the diva lamps independently (with no direction from the adults) so they were how they wanted them to be. This helps empower and 'own' their creations.
